BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Regular workouts are good for your health, and now they can be good for the environment, too.
Fitness Gear & Training in downtown Bellingham recently installed eight pieces of electricity-generating equipment — five spin bicycles, one elliptical, and two treadmills — that will generate an estimated 4,500 kilowatt-hours of electricity and reduce carbon dioxide output by more than two metric tons per year.
The machines capture 74 percent of energy per workout and begin to generate power within the first couple of seconds.
Users will be able to see how much electricity they generate and how much is generated by everyone over time.
Fitness Gear & Training will show off the new equipment at their open house November 6th from 6 PM to 7:30 PM at 1605 N. State Street.
