BELLINGHAM, Wash. – A new mural is aimed at brightening downtown Bellingham while deterring graffiti.
The mural of salmon and orca swimming upstream on a north Forest Street retaining wall is a collaboration by muralist Gretchen Leggitt and Lummi artist Jason LaClair.
The city reports the wall has been a frequent target for graffiti and has required significant resources to keep clean.
That money has been redirected to local artists to showcase their work.
Other downtown murals have been successful deterrents to graffiti.
