MOUNT BAKER SKI AREA, WA. – (KGMI.com) The Mount Baker Ski Area is not yet open for business, but this weekend will likely bring some snow to the mountain.

The forecast for the weekend is snowy, but it is too soon to tell if the amount of snow predicted will be enough to start the ski season.

In a statement on their website, Mt. Baker Ski Area says they are expecting to see the snow base build significantly.

But the forecast after this weekend is not looking too positive for the ski season to kick off in the near future, with slightly warmer and sunnier weather expected Sunday and Monday.

The Ski Area says there is 15 to 17 inches of snow at Heather Meadows.

A base of 20 to 40 inches is needed to open the ski area, depending on density.

Crystal Mountain announced on Tuesday, November 28th, that their opening day will be December 1st.

Crystal Mountain will be the first ski area to open in western Washington.
