Man arrested after smashing car into Bellingham building

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – A man is in custody after smashing his car into a building in Bellingham.

BPD Lt. Claudia Murphy said police were called after the car drove through the doors of the Granary building around 6 a.m. on Wednesday, April 19th.

A security guard told officers he believed the driver was hiding in the building’s basement.

Police found the driver, 29-year-old Chandler Ireland, hiding in a stairwell inside.

Ireland admitted to officers that he had “broken and entered” into the building.

He remains at the Whatcom County Jail on $1000 bail.
