LYNDEN, Wash. – The leader of the Lynden Fire Department is dead.

Mayor Scott Korthuis says Interim Chief Robert Spinner died Friday.

“We are saddened to report that our Interim Fire Chief passed away. He was actually out for a run, and collapsed along the side of the road, and a citizen saw him and called 911,” Korthuis said.

He said Spinner’s own firefighters responded.

Spinner died at the hospital.

North Whatcom Fire and Rescue and the Bellingham and Everson Fire Departments are assisting the Lynden Fire Department on this busy Raspberry Festival weekend.
