EDISON, Wash. – Invasive European green crabs continue to spread in Washington waters and have now been found in another bay in our area.

The crabs have already invaded important fisheries off the Lummi Reservation, Grays Harbor and Pacific County.

KING 5 reports they have now been found in Skagit County’s Samish Bay.

A crew from Taylor Shellfish has been fishing for the crabs and sending them to the University of Washington for analysis.

The green crabs devour native species and devastate natural habitat.

About 140,000 have been found in Washington waters this year, and Governor Jay Inslee has declared an emergency to address the problem.
