BELLINGHAM, Wash. – More wildfire smoke is in the forecast for western Washington.

The National Weather Service in Seattle says that wind patterns will blow more of the smoke towards our region starting Thursday afternoon, August 24th.

Air quality levels are forecast to drop by Friday and throughout the weekend.

Monitoring website IQ Air adds that areas north and east, such as Lynden and Everson, could see unhealthy levels of air quality through Monday.

In addition to the smoke, the NWS says that warmer temperatures could break some records over the weekend.

Heat advisories will likely take effect as temperatures climb into the mid-80s.

And with more smoke in the forecast, the Washington State Dept of Agriculture is reminding farm owners to keep a close eye on their livestock.

Ranchers and farmers are encouraged to provide fresh water and limit exercise or other activities when air quality levels dip.

Feeding animals low-dust or dust-free feeds is also recommended to keep dust exposure to a minimum.

And agricultural workers are advised to clear dead trees and brush to lower the risk of additional wildfires year-round.
