DNR releases maps with tsunami evacuation walk times

OLYMPIA, Wash. — Bellingham is one of the communities covered by newly-released maps charting tsunami evacuation routes and walk times to safety.

The Department of Natural Resources released the maps that assume a slow walking pace of 2.46 miles per hour – the same pace used to time urban crosswalk lights.

Pedestrian evacuation maps for other communities are available through an interactive map on the DNR site.

The interactive map also provides access to tsunami evacuation brochures for areas that do not have walk time maps.

The Bellingham walking map is available as a .zip file from the DNR site.
