You can now cozy up next to a fire if you’re camping on DNR land.
The Washington State Department of Natural Resources has lifted the statewide burn ban on all forest land under their protection.
Effective Monday, September 20th, outdoor burning, campfires, use of charcoal briquettes, and prescribed burns are permitted.
DNR Commissioner Hillary Franz says it’s been a long, challenging wildfire season, but recent rains and shifting weather conditions mean we’re turning the corner and the threat of fires has subsided.
Last week, DNR reopened lands east of the Cascades to public use.
The closures were necessary to help them battle over 1100 wildfires, 93 percent of which they were able to contain to 10 acres or less.
