Contest winners will help paint Space Needle “Galaxy Gold” for 60th anniversary.

SEATTLE, Wash. – They say a trip up the Space Needle is a once in a lifetime experience but officials are upping the ante for its milestone anniversary.

The Needle will be painted “Galaxy Gold” for its 60th anniversary, which was its original color when the landmark debuted at the Seattle World’s Fair in 1962.

This time around, Needle officials are holding a contest for five winners to help paint it.

People age 21 and older who are Washington residents can enter to win online by sharing a memory of the Space Needle in 200 words.

Five people will be chosen to help paint and an additional 55 winners will be randomly selected for other prizes.

The Seattle Times reports the tower also got a fresh coat of gold for its 50th anniversary.
