BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Community members are mourning the loss of the Bellingham man who went missing last month while on a sailing trip in the San Juan Islands.

Nick Saling was reported missing on October 20th.

His boat was found near Lummi Island and the Coast Guard conducted an extensive search throughout the area, but eventually suspended it as new evidence was found that suggested a water-related accident caused his disappearance.

Saling’s former employer, the Whatcom Land Trust, posted a blog Tuesday detailing his achievements and chipper personality.

The land trust says a celebration of life will be held Sunday evening at the Zuanich Boat House in Bellingham.
