City of Bellingham buying more land around Lake Whatcom

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Bellingham City Council has approved another land purchase to protect Lake Whatcom.

Councilmembers approved the acquisition of about 13.5 acres of land in the lake’s watershed at their meeting on Monday, March 13th.

The deal cost just over $463,000 for the three properties, which is set to close on March 31st.

City officials have purchased over 2,400 acres of land to protect the Lake Whatcom Watershed, which provides water to over 100,000 people.

Bellingham City Council approved the purchase of three new properties in the Lake Whatcom watershed. The properties are referred to as Dashchuk, Bryant and Foy properties and total 13.43 acres.
