BELLINGHAM, Wash. — The City of Bellingham will have a new City Attorney next month.

The City Council approved Mayor Seth Fleetwood’s recommendation to appoint Deputy City Attorney Alan Marriner to the position being vacated by current City Attorney Peter Ruffatto.

Marriner has been employed with the City Legal Department since 2004 and has served in his current position since 2014.

His appointment will be effective April 2, which is Ruffatto’s last day of City employment.

Ruffatto announced earlier this month he has accepted a position with a local law firm where he will focus on municipal law.
