LYNDEN, Wash. – A bond that includes the construction of a new Lynden High School will be put in the hands of voters during a special election this February.
School board members voted to approve the Capital Projects Bond at last Thursday, September 28th, to address what the district calls “safety and capacity needs.”
Lynden’s new high school would hold 1,200 students, nearly 500 more than its current building.
Their current high school is about 130 students over its intended capacity, according to a report by the bond recommendation task force.
Revenue from the bond would also go towards adding new classrooms at Isom and Bernice Vossbeck elementary schools.
Additional funds would support the installation of AC units at Fisher Elementary and Lynden Middle School.
The $157.5 million bond would raise property taxes by $1.37 per $1,000 of assessed value.
The state would also match funds raised by the bond with an additional $22 million.
If it passes, the new high school would be targeted to open at the start of the 2027-28 school year.
