BLAINE, Wash. — A Blaine teenager is the new record holder for the biggest Channel Catfish ever caught in Washington.
16-year-old Cole Abshere caught the 42 inch, 37.7 pound channel cat in Lake Terrell in Whatcom County using a nightcrawler on an 8 pound test line.
The Department of Fish and Wildlife says that beats the old record catch from 1999 by almost two pounds.
Cole says landing the big fish was “very exciting and very tiring” but he did not give up the fight.
