BLAINE, Wash. – The Blaine City Council is considering potential affordable housing projects on two properties in the city.

The plan, brought in part by Bellingham-based non-profit Kulshan Community Land Trust, looks to utilize some of the old city hall property for ten smaller residential units as well as ten homes in the Harbor Hills neighborhood of east Blaine.

Blaine is in the process of demolishing the old city hall building and one-third of the property will be used to expand the neighboring Blaine Police station.

The Northern Light reports the city council will wait until that demolition is finished and the three new council members elected in January have time to assess the plan before deciding what to do with the space.
