BIRCH BAY, Wash. – The Washington State Department of Ecology has recognized one of Whatcom County’s public works operations.

Ecology officials designated the Birch Bay Water and Sewer District as an “Outstanding Performance Wastewater Treatment Plant” for 2022.

The district was recognized for a series of improvements, including reducing odors and upgrading equipment.

But their Water and Sewer District is no stranger to state accolades.

This is their 21st award from the state Department of Ecology since 1999.

Officials added that the district consistently performs at some of the highest levels seen in the state.
