BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Whatcom County Public works is calling the storm this week a good test of the new Birch Bay Berm.

The department says the berm did not sustain any damage.

A small amount of debris came through near Bay Breeze restaurant, which the department said was expected in a storm like that.

Parts of Birch Bay not protected by the berm had water on the road.

But photos show so-called “dead head” logs in berm- protected areas did not make it to the road.
