SEATTLE, Wash. – Christmas Day turned out to be a sad day at the Woodland Park Zoo.
KOMO reports that the 28-year-old grizzly bear named Keema had to be euthanized on Sunday, December 25th, due to a decline in his health.
Animal health director Tim Storms says Keema was hanging tough, but they made the move because he was in obvious discomfort.
Male grizzlies normally live around 21 years in captivity.
Keema and his twin brother Denali were born in 1994 at the Washington State University Bear Center and moved to the zoo in Seattle when they were 10 months old.
Denali passed away in 2020 due to age-related issues.
