Bellingham’s wastewater treatment plant is almost fixed

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The City of Bellingham’s wastewater treatment plant is getting close to full operation.

A pipe broke on May 6th at the Post Point Plant, stopping the secondary treatment process.

At least 750,000 gallons of wastewater flooded the underground galleries in the plant.

The primary treatment processes continued and the city says there was no risk to public health.

Crews were able to create a temporary bypass around the broken pipe and restore secondary treatment, but it may take a couple of days to know for sure if it’s working.
