BELLINGHAM, Wash.- Bellingham’s mayor and police chief are now responding to accusations that a police officer assaulted two men and made threats to kill one of them.
In a joint statement on the arrest of Sukhdev Singh Dhaliwal, Chief Cliff Cook and Mayor Kelli Linville say in part:
Officer Dhaliwal was hired on Oct. 1st, 2015.
There are no previous allegations of misconduct related to his employment with the Bellingham Police Department.
The Department has placed Officer Dhaliwal on paid administrative leave.
Mayor Linville and Chief Cook said they are following the procedures required under the collective bargaining agreement with the Police Union.
They said they won’t comment further on an open, on-going investigation.
