BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Three Bellingham Police officers have been arrested in the last two years and Chief David Doll, who has only had that title a few months, is considering the next steps.
“We will hold our people accountable for things that they do. We should be held at a higher standard because we have to uphold that public trust,” he said.
KOMO reports Doll is reaching out to community groups and looking at systems to put in place to address the recent issues.
Corporal Brooks Laughlin was just arrested for the second time in as many months under accusations of domestic violence.
Officer Sukhdev Dhaliwal is on administrative leave after police say he beat up a man, and Jacob Esparza was fired last fall after pleading guilty to domestic violence.
Doll tells KOMO a private attorney is investigating the department’s adherence to policies and says he hopes this is just a string of bad luck.
