BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Bellingham Police arrested a teen for brandishing a weapon after one of the local high school graduation ceremonies this weekend.

Police Lt. Claudia Murphy said the incident happened outside Civic Field following the Options High School ceremony Saturday evening, June 10th.

Two officers were on hand to help with ceremonies throughout the day and responded to a fight between two teens and an adult outside of the stadium.

The adult told one of the officers that the teen had previously threatened his son with a gun, and he had confronted him about it.

The other officer attempted to speak to and search the teen who made the threats, but he refused to cooperate.

He was eventually taken down to the ground, where officers seized a loaded handgun from him.

The teen was booked into the Whatcom County Juvenile Detention Center.
