BELLINGHAM, Wash. – A Bellingham man found incompetent to stand trial has been arrested again on harassment charges.
Court documents state that police were called to a transitional housing complex after the suspect allegedly threatened to shoot residents and staff members on May 23rd.
The complex was placed on lockdown before police arrived.
The suspect, 56-year-old Michael Sullivan, briefly retreated to his unit before returning to the building’s lobby, where he was arrested.
Earlier that day, a competency evaluation was completed for a 2021 burglary case involving Sullivan.
Psychiatric officials determined that Sullivan was not competant to stand trial in that case.
However, they advised that he could stand trial if he underwent treatment at a state psychiatric hospital.
Sullivan remains at the Whatcom County Jail without bail.
Another competency hearing regarding his harassment arrest is scheduled for June 8th.
