Amazon packages overwhelm San Juan postal system

BELLINGHAM, WA – (KGMI.com) Christmas-time chaos is taking over in the San Juan Islands.

Fox13 reports that the holiday surge of Amazon packages has overwhelmed the Friday Harbor post office.

So many packages are being delivered that workers have set up tents outside the post office that are stacked high with Amazon boxes.

The onslaught of Amazon packages is not just limited to the San Juans though.

Similar reports have surfaced in other remote locations like the rural town of Bemidji, Minn., where postal workers say they’ve been ordered to deliver Amazon packages first.

The mayhem has slowed down every-day mail deliveries which can carry crucial contents like federal benefit checks, medical bills and monthly medications.
