Prostate Awareness Month

Classic Rock 92.9 KISM and Bellingham Urology Group will be encouraging men to take care of themselves and get tested during September, which is Prostate Awareness Month. Both Brad and John feel strongly about helping listeners learn more about prostate cancer and support those who are affected.

Prostate cancer can be a serious disease, but most men diagnosed with prostate cancer do not die from it. In 2022, the American Cancer Society estimates there will be about 268,490 new cases and about 34,500 deaths from prostate cancer. Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in American men, behind only lung cancer. About 1 man in 41 will die of prostate cancer.  In fact, more than 3.1 million men in the United States who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer at some point are still alive today.

The prostate cancer death rate declined by about half from 1993 to 2013, most likely due to earlier detection and advances in treatment. Since thenhowever, the pace of decline has slowed, likely reflecting the rise in cancers being found at an advanced stage.

KISM IS COMMITTED TO CREATE AN AWARENESS CAMPAIGN TO GET YOU TESTED!
