BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A young man accused of assaulting two transient people in downtown Bellingham has been arrested.
Bellingham Police Lt. Claudia Murphy says officers were called to a report of an assault on Railroad Avenue early Saturday morning.
The victim told police he was sleeping on the sidewalk when a group of people began stomping on his chest and stole some of his belongings. The man was able to run away, but a witness told police the group later returned to attack another man lying on the ground and broke his umbrella.
The witness says they woke up and shouted at the group, who ran away.
When police arrived downtown, they found an 18-year-old man who fit the description of one of the alleged attackers.
He was taken into custody on robbery, assault and malicious mischief charges, but was released on bail on Monday night.
