WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Whatcom County District Court is offering an opportunity for those with a warrant to avoid jail time.

The court is holding a Warrant Quash Day from 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, March 5.

During that time, defendants will be able to have their warrant quashed by a judge and set a new court date without being taken into custody or having their bail increased. The purpose of the event is to get cases back on track and prevent any unnecessary incarceration.

But District Court Judge Jonathan Rands says you can use the day to do a lot more than just push back your court date.

“Quash day as well, there will be the services of the public defender’s office as well as the prosecutors. And it’s an opportunity to not only quash the warrant but potentially resolve the case completely as well,” Rands said.

Warrant Quash Day will be held at the District Court Clerk’s Office on the fourth floor of the county courthouse.

Those who can’t make it can also schedule a hearing to address their warrant any Tuesday through Friday.
