WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – More resources are coming to Whatcom County to fight the opioid epidemic.

Whatcom County Health and Community Services says it’s added two new naloxone dispenser boxes in Bellingham.

One is at the Way Station on N. State Street and the other is at the department’s administration office on Girard Street. The department also plans to add two more dispensers at the Lummi Nation Fire Station and the Blaine Food Bank in the near future.

“If you suspect someone is having an overdose, it is safe to give them naloxone, even if you don’t know what drug they have taken,” said Dr. Amy Harley, Co-Health Officer. “In almost half of fatal drug overdoses, a bystander was nearby, so community members should consider carrying naloxone to potentially save a life.”

The boxes offer free, 24/7 access to the naloxone, also known as Narcan, which can rapidly reverse the effects of an opioid overdose.

It comes as Whatcom County has seen a nearly 37% drop in opioid overdoses over the first five months of 2025 compared to the same time last year, according to whatcomoverdoseprevention.org.

You can find locations for all six naloxone dispenser boxes throughout the county here.
