BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is asking drivers to be aware of some major backups on southbound I-5 over the next couple of days.

Scheduled tree maintenance between the North Lake Samish exit and north of Nulle Road will continue through Wednesday, Dec. 11.

The work has resulted in a single-lane closure, but WSDOT reported traffic backing up at least five miles on the road on Monday.

WSDOT spokesperson Madison Sehlke says they are observing people having issues merging.

Crews will continue to remove hazardous trees between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. over the next two days.

Pack your patience while traveling south on I-5 and check WSDOT’s real-time map for traffic updates.
