WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – K-12 schools in Whatcom County are getting back in session this week

The Ferndale, Blaine, Nooksack Valley and Lummi Nation school districts all start classes on Wednesday, Aug. 28, while the Lynden and Bellingham school districts both start on Thursday.

The Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction is reminding people to be careful when driving behind a school bus.

If bus lights are flashing or a stop bar is out on a two-lane roadway, drivers need to stop in both directions. If you see lights or a stop bar on a road with three or more lanes, drivers only need to stop if they’re traveling in the same direction as the bus.

Drivers traveling the opposite way should still proceed with caution even if they don’t have to stop.
