BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Police have arrested a person suspected of vandalizing the tree lights in Barkley Village.

Bellingham Police spokesperson Megan Peters says the arrest was made on Wednesday, Dec. 11, after a taxi driver reported that a passenger had smashed the back window of their cab. Officers found a 54-year-old woman suspected of breaking the cab’s window at a nearby establishment.

An officer who took a report on the Barkley Village vandalism recognized the woman as the suspect in those incidents.

Barkley reported that someone had cut the wires on its lighted tree display twice – once on Halloween night and again on the evening of Dec. 7. The shopping center released surveillance images of the suspect in both incidents and said it appeared to be the same person.

Officers arrested the woman on suspicion of malicious mischief.
