BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A dangerous attempt at a police distraction led to a man’s recent arrest in Bellingham.
Bellingham Police Lt. Claudia Murphy says that a bomb threat was called into the Bellis Fair Mall in September of 2024. Officers searched the building, but didn’t find anything suspicious.
Investigators later learned that the 41-year-old suspect made the call because he observed a patrol car parked near his drug dealer. According to Lt. Murphy, the call was mean to divert attention and have the patrol car leave.
In the early hours of Jan. 23, officers making a traffic stop identified the suspect as a passenger and took him into custody. He remains at the Whatcom County Jail without bail.
