BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A man is in custody following a suspected DUI crash that caused power outages in the Whatcom Falls neighborhood.

Bellingham Police say that the driver slammed his car into a transformer at the intersection of Lakeway Drive and Woburn/Yew St. Road around 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 26.

The driver, identified in jail bookings as a 24-year-old man, was not injured and was booked into the Whatcom County Jail.

Power was cut to traffic lights in the area and nearby homes for at least an hour.

Bellingham Public Works has since gotten the lights to flash red, meaning that drivers should treat the intersection as a four-way stop until the lights are repaired
