LYNDEN, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Potential changes to electoral boundaries in and around Lynden will be at the forefront of an upcoming public hearing.
The Whatcom County Council will present its proposed boundary changes at their regularly scheduled meeting on April 15.
Councilmembers say that the changes are necessary because the City of Lynden annexed over 36 acres of land from the county last year.
The most notable changes to current boundaries would occur within the 128th precinct, which covers county property to the north and east of Lynden. If approved by the County Council, that precinct would be split into four sections.
The 611th precinct, which covers Lynden’s southwest, would be split in two sections under the proposed county ordinance.
Lynden has also seen their population grow steadily in recent years, with the U.S. Census reporting that over 16,000 people live within the city limits as of 2024.
According to Whatcom County law, precinct boundaries should hold no more than 1,500 registered voters.
Boundaries for congressional, legislative and county council districts will remain the same.
