BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Nurses at PeaceHealth have reached a tentative agreement for a new contract that would through 2028.

The Washington State Nurses Association (WSNA) says the union’s new contract has several major improvements from the deal they rejected in March of this year.

Among them is an instant $4.25 hourly raise for all nurses at PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center and roughly 3% wage increases in each of the next two years.

WSNA says it’s the highest three-year increases in the bargaining unit’s history.

The nurses will vote to approve the new contract starting Thursday, May 22 with voting set to close on Friday night.

The union is recommending a “Yes” vote, though it also did in March when members overwhelmingly shot down the previous proposal.

It comes as two separate unions of service workers and physicians at PeaceHealth ended their five-day strike on Friday as they continue to bargain for new contracts of their own.

Cold-water immersion may offer health benefits — and also presents risks

Claims about the benefits of cold-water immersion date back centuries. Thomas Jefferson, the principal author of the Declaration of Independence and the third American president, wrote toward the end of his life about using a cold foot bath daily for 60 years. He also owned a book published in 1706 on the history of cold-water bathing.
