BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Keep bundling up, because forecasters say these freezing temperatures aren’t going away.

The National Weather Service in Seattle (NWS) has extended its cold weather advisory for western Whatcom County through Wednesday morning.

The NWS says wind chills could drop to 10 degrees over the next few nights, with the coldest temperatures taking place Tuesday and Wednesday morning. Monday night into Tuesday morning is currently forecast to break Bellingham’s overnight low record of 17 degrees set in 1981.

Cold winds are continuing to blow from the Fraser River, causing this cold weather advisory to continue. The NWS is advising drivers to stay vigilant for black ice as a result of overnight freezing temperatures.

Residents are still being advised to keep pets indoors as much as possible. For those looking for a place to stay overnight, the county’s severe weather shelter in Bellingham is open tonight and tomorrow night and Ferndale’s severe shelter is open through Wednesday but is currently full.

The Lummi Nation cold weather shelter is open for tribal members through Wednesday, and the Lighthouse Mission remains open every night.
