Sounders News

The Sounders fell in their opening match of the MLS Playoffs last night.

Seattle lost to Minnesota United 3-2 on penalty kicks in the first match of their best-of-three series. The PKs came after the two clubs fought to a scoreless draw in regulation.

Seattle entered with a commanding 12-3-2 record over Minnesota in regular-season play, but Minnesota won both prior matchups against the Sounders this year.

They’ll travel to Seattle for Game 2 at Lumen Field next Monday before playing Game 3 in St. Paul, Minnesota, if necessary.

Kraken News

The Kraken are back tonight with a chance to win their third straight. They’re hosting the Montreal Canadiens in the second leg of their five-game homestand.

Seattle’s coming off back-to-back wins over the Jets and Oilers that continued their best start in franchise history. They’ll now have a stab at redemption against the Atlantic Division-leading Canadiens, who beat them in overtime earlier in the season.

Coverage begins at 7:00 and puck drops at 7:30 on KGMI.

Seahawks News

A key contributor is nearing his return for the Seahawks.

The team announced yesterday that rookie fullback Robbie Ouzts has been designated for a return to practice. Ouzts has been out since suffering an ankle injury in Seattle’s Week 3 win over the Saints.

After transitioning from tight end to fullback over the offseason, Ouzts and his blocking have been a big part of Klint Kubiak’s gameplan in his first year as offensive coordinator in Seattle.

Ouzts now has three weeks to be added to the Seahawks’ roster.

Meanwhile, Seattle’s next opponent just suffered a brutal loss last night.

The Washington Commanders fell to the Kansas City Chiefs 28-7 on Monday Night Football. The two teams were tied 7-7 at halftime, but KC erupted for three unanswered touchdowns to hand Washington its third straight loss.

The Commanders were again playing with former Oregon Ducks star Marcus Mariota at quarterback in the absence of rising star Jayden Daniels. Daniels’ status is currently up in the air for this Sunday’s game against the Seahawks.

HS Football News

Speaking of the Seahawks, the team has honored a pair of local high school football coaches for their work this year.

Mount Baker coach Ron Lepper was recently named as one of the Seahawks’ Coach of the Week winners after the Mountaineers’ Week 7 win over Lynden Christian. It came two weeks after Squalicum’s Nick Lucey was also named Coach of the Week after upsetting the 2x defending state champion Anacortes Seahawks.

Both coaches will be invited to a Seahawks home game at the end of the year, where they’ll be recognized with a pregame brunch.

The Seahawks donated $500 to each schools’ football program and both Lepper and Lucey will have a chance to earn $2,000 more for their program if the franchise names them Coach of the Year.

MLB News

The World Series continues tonight following yesterday’s instant classic.

Freddie Freeman hit a walk off home run to lead the Dodgers over the Blue Jays 6-5 in an 18-inning marathon last night. The game lasted 6 hours and 39 minutes and matched the longest game by innings in postseason history.

LA now holds a 2-1 series lead over Toronto.

Shohei Ohtani is on the mound for the Dodgers in Game 4 tonight after setting an all-time record yesterday by reaching bases nine times in a single game. Coverage begins at 4:00 and first pitch is at 5 on KPUG.
