Seahawks News

Seahawks football is finally back. They’re hosting the Las Vegas Raiders tonight in their first game of the preseason.

It’ll be a welcome home for first-year Raiders coach Pete Carroll, the Seahawks’ all-time winningest coach. New Raiders additions Geno Smith and Jamal Adams will also return to Lumen for the first time since parting ways with Seattle.

Carroll isn’t ruling out the possibility of playing any of his starters, while Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald says only his rookie starters will see the field. It will be a first chance for Seahawks fans to watch first-round offensive lineman Grey Zabel in action, as well as third-round Alabama alum Jalen Milroe at quarterback.

Coverage for tonight’s game begins at 5:00 and kickoff is at 7 on KPUG.

Mariners News

Dominic Canzone hit a walk off single and the Mariners beat the Chicago White Sox 4-3 in 11 innings this afternoon.

Randy Arozarena hit a 2-run home run in the third inning to give the M’s an early lead. But the White Sox hit a pair of solo homers to send the game to extras.

Each team scored in the 10th inning to knot it at 3-3 heading into the 11th. Canzone went on to score Eugenio Suarez to deliver Seattle its fourth-straight win. The Mariners now sit just a game and a half behind the Astros for first place in the AL West after winning six of their last seven.

Meanwhile, first baseman Josh Naylor left the game after grounding out in the third inning. No word yet from the club on the reason for his early exit.

The M’s continue their homestand tomorrow night in the first of their three-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays. It’s also the start of Ichiro Hall of Fame Weekend at T-Mobile Park. The first 20,000 fans that arrive at tomorrow’s game will receive a 2004 replica jersey from the night he set the MLB single-season hit record.

Coverage begins at 5:30 and first pitch is at 6:40 tomorrow on KPUG.

Bells News

The Bells saved their best for last yesterday at Joe Martin Field. They thumped the Nanaimo NightOwls 18-1 in their final game of the regular season.

Chihiro Sato threw five perfect innings in the start to back up a season-high three home runs from the Bells. Aiden Aguayo, Gavin Long and Blake Balsz all went yard in the team’s highest-scoring game of the year.

The Bells now move on to the first round of the West Coast League Playoffs, where they’ll face the Wenatchee AppleSox in a three-game series. Game 1 will be played in Wenatchee tomorrow before the Bells return home for Game 2 on Saturday and a potential Game 3 on Sunday. Tickets are already on sale at bellstickets.com.

On the other side of the North Division bracket, the Edmonton Riverhawks are facing off against the Victoria HarbourCats. Edmonton secured a win yesterday to finish with the best record in the North Division and would host the single-game divisional championship if they beat Victoria.

Meanwhile in the South Division, the defending champion Portland Pickles will play the Marion Berries and the Corvallis Knights will face the Bend Elks.

Sounders News

The Sounders beat Club Tijuana 2-1 last night in their final Phase One match of the Leagues Cup. Danny Musovski and Osaze De Rosario each headed in goals in the second half to help the Sounders rally from a 1-0 deficit at the break.

Seattle is unbeaten in its last nine matches, going back to June 23. They now advance to the Leagues Cup quarterfinals, which will likely be played on August 20.

In the meantime, the Sounders will return to MLS play on Sunday with a road match against the LA Galaxy.
