Mariners News

The Mariners are opening their series against the Chicago White Sox at T-Mobile tonight. The M’s are coming off a monumental series win over the Texas Rangers that gave them more space in the division standings and solidified their spot as a wildcard team in the American League.

The White Sox own the second-worst record in the majors, but are coming off back-to-back series wins over the Phillies and Angels. They’re playing their best ball of the season, with a 10-5 record over their last 15 games.

The Mariners will look to slow them down with All-Star Bryan Woo on the mound for tonight’s series opener.

Coverage begins at 5:30 and first pitch is at 6:40 on KPUG.

Bells News

It’s PNW Media Group Night at Joe Martin Field! Come say hi to all your favorite radio stations when the Bells host the Nanaimo NightOwls in their second-to-last regular season game of the year.

The Bells dropped last night’s game 3-2 in 10 innings. Bellingham didn’t score until the sixth inning and tied the game in the seventh when Noah Cassie hit an RBI double to score Gavin Long. But the NightOwls loaded the bases in the 10th and scored the winning run on a sac fly.

The Bells now sit two games back from Edmonton in the North Division standings and will need to win each of their final two games to have a chance at winning the division.

First pitch for tonight’s Game 2 against Nanaimo is at 6:35 from Joe Martin Field. And make sure to get there early, because the first 900 fans will receive special Bellingham Bells baseball cards.

Storm News

The Storm have added another All-Star just ahead of the WNBA trade deadline. Seattle traded forward Alysha Clark and a 2026 first-round pick to the Washington Mystics in exchange for guard Brittney Sykes.

Sykes is in the midst of one of the best seasons of her nine-year career, averaging 15 points and 4 assists per game. The four-time all-defensive selection was named to her first All-Star team this summer when she replaced the injured Caitlin Clark.

The Storm now have four All-Stars as Sykes joins Skylar Diggins, Nneka Ogwumike and Gabby Williams.

As for the outgoing Alysha Clark, she took less money to sign with the Storm in free agency, but ESPN reports that expectations for the team and her role didn’t pan out as expected on either side.

The Storm are looking to avoid their third straight loss when they host the Western Conference-leading Minnesota Lynx at 7:00 tonight.

UW Huskies Football News

The Washington Huskies received some consideration in the first college football rankings of the season.

UW had the 16th-most votes of any team outside the Top 25 in the preseason coach’s poll. That essentially placed them 41st overall in the country.

There were six Big Ten teams in the Top 25 and three in the top seven, including Oregon.

Sophomore quarterback Demond Williams Jr. will look to build on a promising end to last season when he took over the starting job as Jedd Fisch heads into his second year as coach of the Huskies. They’ll open their season at home against Colorado State on Aug. 30.
