Mariners News

The Mariners have the day off today after winning a big divisional series over the weekend. The M’s took three out of four games over the Texas Rangers, with the last three games all being decided by one run or going to extra innings.

J.P Crawford hit a walk off homer on Friday and the Rangers countered with a tight 11-inning win on Saturday. But Seattle secured the series yesterday with a 5-4 win.

Julio Rodriguez hit his 100th career home run and also became the first player in major league history with at least 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases in each of his first four seasons. Jorge Polanco and J.P. Crawford also homered in the win.

The Mariners now sit two games ahead of the Rangers for the final wild card spot in the American League. They’re also just 2.5 games behind Houston for first-place in the AL West after the Astros got swept by the Red Sox over the weekend.

The Mariners continue their homestand tomorrow night when they host the Chicago White Sox, who own the second-worst record in the majors.

Coverage begins at 5:30 and first pitch is at 6:40 on KPUG.

Bells News

The Bells are back at home tonight for the start of their final regular season series of the year. Bellingham’s hosting the Nanaimo NightOwls in a series that could have big playoff implications.

The Bells are coming off a series win in Wenatchee over the weekend where they won the rubber match 10-5 yesterday. They’ve already clinched home field advantage for their first playoff series, but need to win the North Division to secure home field for the divisional championship if they make it that far.

The Bells currently sit 1.5 games behind Edmonton for first place in the North.

Every game counts as the Bells look to challenge the River Hawks for the division’s regular season title. First pitch for tonight’s series opener against Nanaimo is at 6:35 from Joe Martin Field.

Sounders/Reign News

The Sounders beat Santos Laguna 2-1 last night in their second match of the Leagues Cup tournament. Danny Musovski scored the first goal on an assist from Paul Rothrock before Seattle went up 2-0 in the 65th minute. Santos scored its first goal in extra time, but it was too little, too late.

The Sounders are now 2-0 in Leagues Cup play, joining Portland as the only undefeated teams from the MLS. They’ll close out Phase One of the tournament against Club Tijuana on Wednesday at Lumen.

Meanwhile, the Reign got a win in their return to the pitch. Jess Fishlock scored her second goal of the season and Seattle beat Angel City 2-0 on Friday as the National Women’s Soccer League resumed play after its annual summer break.  Fishlock broke a scoreless deadlock at Lumen Field when she scored on a rebound in the 66th minute.

The Reign, now undefeated in their last four matches, made it 2-0 in the 86th minute when Sofia Huerta’s corner kick was deflected in by an Angel City midfielder. The club will travel to Portland next Sunday to face its Pacific Northwest rival Thorns.

Storm News

The Storm suffered a pair of tight losses over the weekend. Seattle fell to the Los Angeles Sparks 108-106 in the league’s first double-overtime game of the season on Friday. The Sparks made a go-ahead layup with 4 seconds left to steal the win.

It didn’t get much better yesterday, when the Storm fell to the Indiana Fever 78-74 in a game that did not feature Fever sensation Caitlin Clark.

Seattle will look to avoid losing its third straight game when it hosts the Western Conference-leading Minnesota Lynx tomorrow night.
