The Mariners are trying to even their series in Arizona after their late-game rally fell short last night. The M’s trailed the Diamondbacks 4-0 entering the ninth inning, but Dominic Canzone hit a 450-foot home run to cap off a 4-run inning and send it to extras. However, it was D-backs first baseman Josh Naylor who had the final word in the 11th inning, launching a walk-off grand slam to give Arizona an 8-4 win.

The Mariners picked up 12 hits, including multi-hit games by JP Crawford, Julio Rodriguez, Randy Arozarena and Cole Young. But they couldn’t capitalize and went 3-18 with runners in scoring position. Emerson Hancock gave up two runs through five innings, but the Mariners’ bullpen continued its recent struggles in the loss.

Seattle will look to bounce back in Game 2 tonight with Logan Evans taking the mound. Coverage begins at 5:30 and first pitch is at 6:40 on KPUG.

As if the walk off loss wasn’t enough, M’s fans were dealt another blow before tonight’s game. The team placed starting pitcher Bryce Miller back on the 15-day injured list with elbow inflammation this morning.

Miller came off the injured list on May 31 and made two starts, but struggled in both. Manager Dan Wilson says it’s the same injury Miller faced earlier this season. The Mariners called up Logan Evans from Triple-A Tacoma to start tonight and pushed Bryan Woo’s start back to tomorrow.

Miller’s injury adds to a banged-up Mariners rotation that just recently got George Kirby back, while Logan Gilbert is still making his return from rehab.

Bells News

The Bells are back in town for the start of a brief three-game homestand. They’re playing the Bend Elks tonight in a series between two of the top teams in the West Coast League.

The Bells have won all three of their series to open the season and enter tonight with a 6-3 record, which is tied for first place in the North Division.

It’s College Night, so you can get into the game for free with a valid student ID. First pitch is at 6:35 from Joe Martin Field.

Seahawks News

The Seahawks have signed Pro Bowler Michael Dickson to an extension that makes him the NFL’s highest paid punter. ESPN reports the four-year extension is worth $16.2 million with just over $10 million guaranteed. Dickson ranks third in the NFL over the past three seasons with an average of just over 49 yards per punt.

He was recently named by the Seahawks as one of the 50 greatest players in franchise history.

NHL News

The Panthers dominated the Oilers last night to take a 2-1 lead in the Stanley Cup Finals. Florida blew out Edmonton 6-1 in what’s been an otherwise tightly-contested championship series. The Panthers’ Brad Marchand became the oldest player to score in each of the first three games of a final, while Sam Bennett added his NHL playoff-leading 14th goal.

The teams have some extra time off before Game 4 in Florida on Thursday night. There, the defending champion Panthers will have a chance to take a commanding 3-1 lead.

Community Events

The World Cup may be a year away, but the festivities are already beginning. The City of Bellingham is hosting a celebration at the Portal Container Village from 3:30 to 4:30 pm tomorrow.

Attendees will be able to meet former Sounders players and US Men’s National Team star Brad Evans.

Bellingham is one of only nine cities in Washington that were chosen as an official fan zone for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
