The Mariners are trying to win their series against the Nats tonight on the heels of their worst loss of the season. The M’s fell to the Nationals 9-0 yesterday in the second of their nine-game homestand. Miles Mastrobuoni went 2-2, but the rest of the team only managed three hits in the loss. George Kirby struggled in his second start since coming off the IL, giving up six runs in five innings, including three homers.
The M’s are still clinging onto a half-game lead over the Astros for first place in the AL West. Emerson Hancock will try to help them get some breathing room and secure their series against the Nats tonight. Coverage begins at 5:30 and first pitch is at 6:40 on KPUG.
Sounders News
Jesus Ferreira scored his first goal for the Sounders to help them beat San Diego FC 1-0 last night. Stefan Frei added seven saves to get his fifth clean sheet of the season. The Sounders own a 6-0-3 record at Lumen Field this season as one of just two clubs in the MLS that are still unbeaten at home. They now sit just a point behind San Diego for second place in the Western Conference standings.
NBA News
One half of the NBA Finals has been set. The Oklahoma City Thunder thumped the Minnesota Timberwolves 124-94 last night to be crowned Western Conference champions. League MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the team with 34 points to help the Thunder reach their first Finals since 2012. They’re just the fourth team in NBA history to reach 80 wins before the Finals.
In the Eastern Conference, the Indiana Pacers and New York Knicks are facing off in Game 5 at Madison Square Garden tonight. The Pacers, who own a 3-1 lead, will look to book a ticket to their first Finals appearance in 25 years.
NHL News
The Stanley Cup Playoffs are also nearing a close. The defending champion Florida Panthers beat the Carolina Hurricanes 5-3 yesterday to return to the Finals. They could be in for a rematch of last year’s Stanley Cup, as the Edmonton Oilers hold a 3-1 lead over the Dallas Stars on the other side of the bracket. The Oilers could clinch the series with Game 5 in Dallas tonight.
Kraken News
The Seattle Kraken signed forward John Hayden to a two-year, one-way contract extension yesterday. The 30-year-old Hayden had a goal and an assist in 20 games for the Kraken last season. He also had two goals and an assist for Coachella Valley in the AHL playoffs. Kraken GM Jason Botterill said Hayden is a strong leader who brings a terrific work ethic and physical presence to the ice.

Western’s rowing team begins the journey towards its 10th national championship tomorrow morning. The defending champion Vikings will take part in the NCAA Championships in New Jersey.
The team’s coming off a 2nd place finish at the GNAC Championships earlier this month, narrowly losing to Cal Poly Humboldt. Despite the loss, the team received an at-large bid for the national meet. The national meet begins tomorrow at 6 am and wraps up on Saturday.
