The MLB playoff picture is set.
The Mariners will open the postseason at home this Saturday in Game 1 of the American League Divisional Series. They’ll face the winner of the Detroit Tigers vs. Cleveland Guardians in their Wild Card Series that begins tomorrow.
On the other side of the AL bracket, the Red Sox and Yankees are facing off in another installment of their classic rivalry, with the winner playing the Blue Jays.
Over in the National League, the Reds and Dodgers are playing for the chance to face the Phillies in the NLDS. And the Padres are playing the Cubs, with the winner moving on to play the Brewers.
We’ll be airing both American League wild card series on the radio this week.
Coverage for tomorrow’s Tigers-Guardians game begins at 9:30 am and first pitch is at 10:08. Coverage for Red Sox-Yankees begins at 2:30 and first pitch is at 3:08, both on KPUG.
Meanwhile, the Mariners’ road to the World Series could impact the schedule for another cross-town team.
City of Seattle officials told ESPN that scheduling issues for the Mariners’ home playoff games could result in a changed kickoff time for at least one home game for the Seahawks and possibly two.
Both of the Seahawks’ next two home games – this Sunday against Tampa Bay and the next week’s Monday Night Football game against Houston – are on days when the Mariners could be hosting playoff games. According to ESPN, the infrastructure of the area surrounding T-Mobile Park and Lumen Field is not designed to support two games being played at once and would cause massive traffic problems along with overcrowding.
Seattle officials say kickoff times for those Seahawks home games could be pushed back anywhere from an hour-and-a-half to two-and-a-half hours. MLB officials aren’t expected to decide on a start time for the Mariners’ Sunday home playoff game until Friday.
Speaking of the NFL, the Bengals and Broncos are facing off in Denver for Monday Night Football. Coverage begins at 4:00 and kickoff is at 5:15 on KPUG.
Huskies/Cougs News
The Huskies’ home win streak has come to an end.
UW lost to Ohio State 24-6 on Saturday to snap their string of 22-straight wins at Husky Stadium. It was the second-longest active home win streak in college football, second to Georgia’s stretch of 33 straight games that was also snapped on Saturday in their loss to former Huskies coach Kalen Deboer and Alabama.
Washington put together a solid start and trailed 7-3 at halftime, but the #1 nationally ranked Buckeyes took it from there and ran away with the win.
The Cougs were able to pull out a win, beating Colorado State 20-3. Washington State’s staunch defense held CSU without a touchdown at home for the first time in 85 games.
The Cougs have a bye week coming up, while the Huskies travel to the East Coast to face Maryland on Saturday.
Sounders/Reign News
The Sounders clinched a spot in the MLS Playoffs over the weekend.
Seattle played the Vancouver Whitecaps to a 2-2 draw on Saturday. Albert Rusnack and Jackson Ragen each scored for the Sounders, who secured a postseason berth with Colorado’s draw against Minnesota.
They own the fifth-best record in the Western Conference with just three games left to go in the regular season.
The Reign picked up a win the next day, beating the North Carolina Courage 2-1. It moved Seattle up to fourth place in the National Women’s Soccer League standings with four matches remaining in the regular season.
HS Football News
Anacortes edged Lynden 26-23 on Friday in a matchup of the top 2A schools in the state. Lynden trailed by 16 entering the fourth quarter and scored a pair of late touchdowns, but fell just short of completing the comeback.
Meanwhile, history was made in Sehome’s 42-7 win over Burlington-Edison. Mariners senior quarterback Nolan Wright threw for four touchdowns to become Whatcom County’s all-time leader in touchdown passes, passing the previous record of 84 according to WhatcomPreps.
Sehome will host Lynden in a highly-anticipated Thursday Night Football matchup later this week, we’ll be broadcasting that game on KGMI.

Lummi Nation lost to Tulalip Heritage 58-8.
Squalicum handled Lakewood 56-7.
Bellingham fell to Archbishop Murphy 61-28.
Mount Baker blew out Sultan 59-14.
Blaine fell to Granite Falls 27-6.
Nooksack Valley lost to Tumwater 48-28.
And Lynden Christian beat Lakeside by 9 Mile Falls 49-21.
Meridian’s game against Forks was called off, but they still celebrated during a field dedication ceremony for legendary Trojans coach Bob Ames on Saturday.
