A new All-Star could be on his way to the Mariners.
ESPN reports that the M’s are nearing a deal to acquire utility man Brendan Donovan from the St. Louis Cardinals. It comes as part of a three-team trade that also includes the Tampa Bay Rays that will send Ben Williamson to Tampa and two prospect, including switch-pitcher Jurrangelo Cijntje to the Cardinals.
The 29-year-old Donovan is coming off a year where he made his first All-Star game and hit a career-high .286 with 10 home runs and 50 RBIs in 118 games.
The move comes less than 24 hours after the Cincinnati Reds signed former Mariner Eugenio Suarez to a one-year, $15 million deal with a mutual option. He’s coming off a season where he hit 49 home runs and had one of the M’s biggest hits of all time with his grand slam in Game 5 of the ALCS against Toronto.

The NFL’s coaching carousel may be nearing its end.
The Arizona Cardinals announced yesterday that they’ve hired former Rams offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur as their new head coach.
Meanwhile, ESPN reports that the Las Vegas Raiders are expected to hire Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak after the Super Bowl.
Kraken News
The Kraken had a successful start to their road trip over the weekend.
They beat the Vegas Golden Knights 3-2 on Saturday thanks to a go-ahead goal by Kaapo Kakko in the third period. Eeli Tolvanen and Jared McCann each scored as well to help the Kraken notch their fourth straight win.
They’ll look to make it five in a row tomorrow night when they travel to face the Ducks in Anaheim.

It was a great weekend for Western basketball as well.
The Viks picked up a pair of wins, including an incredible comeback by the men’s team. They trailed Alaska Fairbanks by 15 points with 13 minutes left in the game Saturday, but stormed back to take a 96-89 win at Carver Gym.
Freshman guard Dennis Johnson III led the team with 28 points, which earned him GNAC Player of the Week. Aidan Rice added 21 points and 7 assists as the Viks won their third straight and evened up to 11-11 on the season.
Meanwhile, the women handled Western Oregon 66-44 on the road. Former Whatcom County prep stars Demi Dykstra and Aspen Garrison each scored 18 points to help the Viks rebound from a tough loss against Saint Martin’s just days earlier.
They’ll be back in Bellingham on Thursday for a big rivalry game against Central, which owns the best record in the GNAC.
