Mariners News

It’s win or go home for the Mariners tonight.

They’re hosting the Detroit Tigers for the decisive Game 5 of their divisional series. A win would send Seattle to its first ALCS since 2001.

The Mariners will look to rebound after collapsing in a 9-3 loss on Wednesday. George Kirby is getting the start for the M’s, while reigning AL Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal is taking the mound for Detroit.

The winner of today’s game will move on to face the Toronto Blue Jays for the right to represent the American League in the World Series.

Coverage begins at 4:00 and first pitch is at 5:05 on KGMI. If the M’s win, Game 1 against the Blue Jays would take place at 5 pm on Sunday in Toronto.

Meanwhile, the rest of the MLB Playoff picture is becoming clearer in the National League.

The defending champion Dodgers beat the Phillies in extra innings last night to move on to the NLCS. There, they’ll face the winner of the Cubs and Brewers, who are playing in a decisive Game 5 tomorrow night in Milwaukee.

Seahawks News

The Seahawks are gearing up for a big game this weekend. They’re travelling across the country to take on the 4-1 Jaguars in Jacksonville.

Seattle’s coming off a tight shootout loss to Tampa Bay that snapped their three-game win streak, while the Jags are coming off a short week after beating Kansas City on Monday Night Football.

The Seahawks could be a bit thin in their secondary again, as Pro Bowlers Devon Witherspoon and Julian Love have both been held out of practice this week with injuries. The 12’s will look to rebound on the road against a Jags team with a full head of steam after their primetime win.

Coverage begins at 8 am Sunday and kickoff is at 10 on KPUG.

Huskies/Cougs News

The Huskies are taking the field tonight for their home matchup against Rutgers.

UW is coming off a massive comeback win over Maryland, where they overcame a 20-point deficit to stun the Terrapins on the road. They’ll look to carry that momentum into tonight’s match against a Rutgers squad that has dropped its first two Big Ten matchups of the season.

Kickoff is at 6:00 from Husky Stadium.

Meanwhile, the Cougs are across the country as they enter their toughest game of the season. Washington State is playing 4th nationally ranked Ole Miss tomorrow morning.

The Cougs are coming off a 20-3 win over Colorado State where their defense dominated. They’ll need more of the same tomorrow in order to pull off a massive upset against the undefeated Rebels.

That game kicks off at 9:45 am from Oxford.

Kraken News

The Kraken opened their season with a win for the first time ever last night.

Mason Marchment scored in his Seattle debut after being acquired from Dallas in an offseason trade. Vince Dunn and Jared McCann each scored as well and Joey Daccord made 35 saves to help the Kraken win their season opener for the first time in team history.

Up next for the Kraken, they’ll host the Vegas Golden Knights tomorrow night. Coverage begins at 6:30 and puck drops at 7 on KPUG.

HS Football News

The Zone’s Friday Night Lights is live from Lynden Christian today as the undefeated Lyncs host Sehome in their toughest test of the season yet.

LC’s stingy defense is allowing just 10 points per game, but they’re taking on a Mariners squad that has matched offenses with the best of them this season. Jim Bring and the coach Dan Kaemingk will be bringing that game to you on KPUG.

Meanwhile, over in Deming, Mount Baker is hosting Meridian in a matchup of 1A powers. The Mountaineers are coming off a tight shootout win over Nooksack Valley and will look to hand the Trojans their first loss of the season. That game will be aired on KBAI with Randy Farmer and Rick Todd on the call.

Allan Fee and the crew are previewing both those games and all the other ones leading up to their 7:00 kickoff.

Elsewhere around the county…

Lummi Nation is at Muckleshoot Tribal with a 5:00 kickoff.

Starting at 7, Nooksack Valley is at Blaine.

Lynden is home for Squalicum.

Bellingham hosts Burlington-Edison.

Ferndale is home for Snohomish.

And down in Skagit County, Anacortes is hosting Archbishop Murphy in a battle between two of the top 2A schools in the state.
