Mariners News

The Mariners are looking to clinch their Windy City series tonight in Game 2 against the White Sox. Seattle’s pitching was once again the key to success last night, beating Chicago 5-1 for their sixth-straight win on the road.

Luis Castillo threw seven innings of one-run ball and Julio Rodriguez hit a grand slam to give the Mariners’ the series-opening win. It handed the struggling White Sox their fifth-straight loss.

Usual bullpen-staple Casey Legumina is making the first start of his career for the Mariners tonight as the club battles through injuries to more than half of their regular starters. Coverage begins at 3:30 and first pitch is at 4:40 on KPUG.

Seahawks News

A date has been announced for Pete Carroll’s return to Seattle. The Seahawks will host Carroll’s Las Vegas Raiders for their first preseason game on Thursday, Aug. 7. The team parted ways with Carroll following the 2023 season, departing as the franchise’s all-time leader in wins by a coach. It will also be a homecoming for former QB1 Geno Smith, who Seattle traded to Vegas earlier this offseason.

Storm News

The Storm notched their first win of the WNBA season last night. Nneka Ogwumike scored 23 points and grabbed 19 rebounds to help Seattle beat the Dallas Wings 79-71.

The Storm used a 56-point first-half onslaught to grow an early lead and held on, despite scoring just 23 points in the second half. No. 1 overall draft pick Paige Bueckers scored 19 points to lead the Wings, who fell to 0-2.

The Storm are back on Friday when they host the Phoenix Mercury for their home opener at Climate Pledge.

NBA/NHL News

The Final Four is getting underway tonight in both the NBA and NHL playoffs.

In the NBA, the Oklahoma City Thunder and Minnesota Timberwolves are battling it out for the Western Conference Finals. Former University of Washington standout Jaden McDaniels will look to help the Wolves reach their first NBA Finals in franchise history. Across the league, the New York Knicks and Indiana Pacers tip their series off tomorrow night.

In the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the defending champion Florida Panthers are playing the Carolina Hurricanes tonight, while the Dallas Stars and Edmonton Oilers kick their series off tomorrow.

NFL News

Your favorite NFL stars could be playing in the next summer Olympics.  League owners unanimously approved a proposal today that will allow players to play flag football at the 2028 Los Angeles Games. The league still needs to negotiate with the NFL Players Association, Olympic officials and other governing bodies on the specifics of letting NFL players participate.

The owners are also expected to vote on several other issues this week, including a proposal to ban the tush push and a proposal to reseed playoff teams based on regular-season record.
