Mariners News

The Mariners are looking to break out of their slump in their return home tonight. They’re hosting the Cleveland Guardians in the first of their three-game weekend series.

The M’s are coming off a series sweep at the hands of the Diamondbacks and have lost eight of their last nine games. They’ve slid into a second-place tie with the Angels in the AL West and sit 4.5 games behind the Astros for the division lead.

Luis Castillo is on the mound tonight as the M’s try to snap their three-game skid. Coverage begins at 6:00 and first pitch is at 7:10 on KGMI.

Bells News

The Bells swept their series last night off their first walk off win of the season. Noah Cassie hit a game-winning, 2-run single to lift the Bells over the Bend Elks 4-3.

It was the second hit of the game for Cassie, who accounted for half of the Bells’ four total hits. But the team drew nine walks to get traffic on the bases. Reigning West Coast League Pitcher of the Week Chihiro Sato threw just over five perfect innings out of the bullpen to help the Bells earn the win.

The team is hitting the road for the next week, starting with a three-game series against the Victoria HarbourCats. First pitch for tonight’s series-opener is at 6:35 from Victoria.

Sounders News

The Sounders are kicking off group-stage competition this weekend in the debut of the FIFA Club World Cup. The new event brings together 32 clubs from around the world for a month-long tournament across the US.

The Sounders are one of just three teams in the MLS that have secured a spot, along with Inter Miami and LAFC. They need to place in the top two among their group of four to advance to the round of 16.

Their first group-stage game against Botafogo takes place at 7:00 from Lumen Field on Sunday.

NBA News

The Oklahoma City Thunder and Indiana Pacers are battling in Game 4 of the NBA Finals tonight. The Thunder will look to avenge their loss in Game 3 to even the series at two games apiece.

OKC hasn’t lost back-to-back games in two months. But the Pacers will try to take a commanding 3-1 lead in front of their home crowd.

Coverage for Game 4 begins at 4:30 and it tips off at 5:30 on KPUG.

NHL News

The Edmonton Oilers won another Stanley Cup Final thriller last night to tie the series 2-2. The Florida Panthers went up 3-0 in the first period, but Edmonton responded with three goals of their own in the second to tie it.

The Oilers took the lead in the third, but the Panthers tied it with 20 seconds left in regulation to send it to extra time. There, Leon Draisaitl scored his NHL playoff-record fourth overtime goal for the Oilers to help them escape with the win.

It was the third game of the series that’s gone to overtime.

The series will head back to Canada for Game 5 at 5 pm tomorrow night.

Cold-water immersion may offer health benefits — and also presents risks

Claims about the benefits of cold-water immersion date back centuries. Thomas Jefferson, the principal author of the Declaration of Independence and the third American president, wrote toward the end of his life about using a cold foot bath daily for 60 years. He also owned a book published in 1706 on the history of cold-water bathing.
