WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – If you’re looking to access parts of Whatcom County’s backcountry and beyond, Tuesday, April 22 is your lucky day.
The North Cascades Highway is reopening tomorrow according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.
The highway between Ross Dam trailhead and Silver Star Gate closes every winter as the snowfall is too heavy in that portion of the North Cascades.
The spring reopening is on par for previous years, as the area reopens usually between mid-April and mid-May since WSDOT started tracking the openings in 1972.
This comes as National Park Week continues in the U.S. until April 27.
