New report finds gender wage gap is wider in northwest Washington

WASHINGTON, D.C. (MyBellinghamNow.com) – New data shows the gender wage gap continues in Washington state.

A newly released report from the National Partnership for Women & Families finds women statewide earn about $18,500 less per year than men.

The gap affects some women more than others. Latina women face the largest disparity, earning nearly $38,000 less annually, while Asian American women see the smallest gap, at about $13,000 a year.

In Congressional District Two, which includes Bellingham, the gap is even wider. Women earn just 69 cents for every dollar paid to men.

Nationally, women earn about 76 cents on the dollar, losing nearly two trillion dollars each year due to pay inequity.
